Hi, Loren. This week proved another great post from you!
ReplyDeleteI agree with your thoughts that employee mapping showed little opportunity for true feedback, seeming objective. It does seem that employees, in those situations, fall onto a track of success based on particular evaluations; however, politics can play a HUGE role in those situations.
I found it humorous that we chose the same article to use in our posts! I found the Fulk, Bell, and Bodie (2011) insight on management by objectives right on target with my own thoughts. Management by objectives gives clear. concise goals about where an employee should be headed. Fulk et al. (2011) stated, as you highlighted, that management by objectives is based on communication - which is highly necessary among employer and employee. Feedback, whether positive or constructive, is necessary in order for the final goal to be me (Fulk et al., 2011). Nothing is more frustrating than someone telling you to "fix it" but not necessarily telling you what "it" is or working through the steps WITH you to "fix it"!
Thanks so much for your post! Take care!
Rhonda

Hi Loren,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post and truly appreciate your biblical reference to this week's reading, Matthew 6:33 that says, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." In the workplace, as well as outside of it, we often seek to please "the Boss", our co-workers and others within our profession, however we must be reminded of our first responsibility. We should, in all that we do, seek to please God first. How powerful is God's word in reassuring us that if we do as He says, He will provide us with all that we need; therefore there is no need to worry about tomorrow because He will take care of it all. As I think about evaluations and how it can be a stressful process, we have been given the authority as God's children to turn the challenges of life around by being obedient to God. So when we face evaluations, despite how unfair we think the process may be, or how little appreciation we feel is given for our efforts etc...,, we must remember to seek God's approval first and as you said...if it is right with God, we know we will be ok. What a blessing!
Thanks again for reminding me about the promises of God and that His word applies to ALL areas of our life!
Blessings,
Reba
